We're looking to add a proactive and self-directed Technical Senior Designer to our team with experience leading drafting and construction documentation for interior remodel and cabinetry projects in a small business setting. Success in this role looks like managing drawing sets and specifications independently and with confidence, building strong vendor and contractor relationships, and delivering accurate, buildable plans that keep projects on schedule. This role offers room to grow in leadership, responsibility, and technical ownership as the firm evolves.
Position Overview
The Technical Designer is responsible for executing our residential interior remodel and cabinetry projects once the overall design direction has been established by the Principal Designer.
You will work in tandem with our creative designer on projects for both our interior design studio and the Cabinetry Studio to bring clients' designs to life through careful, thorough execution of design details and construction documents, project management and coordination, and ensuring all details are adhered to according to the scope of work.
Your focus is weighted toward the technical side of projects — first and foremost drawings, design details and design development, project coordination, and specifications management. On larger projects, you and the creative designer may work in parallel; on smaller projects you may own execution independently. On cabinet projects, you will manage procurement and purchasing of cabinetry components, hardware, and lighting, and placing orders with vendors directly in collaboration with the Procurement Manager. You will see projects through from concept to installation and serve as the go-to for construction or installation questions on job sites.
This role requires comfort working independently and in a self-directed manner. Strong communication skills are essential to building working relationships with designers, industry partners, and clients. Careful attention to detail and knowledge of design, remodeling, architecture, and construction best practices are imperative.
What You'll Do
Drafting & Project Execution
Draft in Chief Architect: entering as-built information, updating drawings, dimensioning, creating elevations and perspective drawings, creating new materials and components for BIM libraries, and creating permit layouts, MEP plans, and other construction documents
Create and maintain product schedules, accurate pricing, and specification details in our project software
Track design time daily in our software for project billing
Manage project task progress in our software, moving projects forward according to the roadmap and scope of work
Maintain client project files, drawings and documents in an organized manner according to company structure
Visit project sites periodically to ensure drawings and construction details are being implemented correctly, and serve as the go-to for construction or installation questions on site
Present to clients and participate in installations
Collaborate closely with the principal and creative designer to deliver accurate plans and specifications documentation
Procurement & Vendor Coordination
Price and purchase cabinetry components, hardware, and lighting
Track orders and product status of cabinetry and components
Participate in installation of cabinetry
Grow in knowledge of our main cabinet lines, hardware, lighting and accessories
Client Experience
Guide clients through technical decisions and construction details with confidence and clarity
Maintain consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle
Prepare client care information, including warranty information, repair, or ongoing product care and maintenance
Collaboration
Coordinate with installers, builders, architects, engineers, contractors, and their clients
Collaborate with the Operations Manager on process adherence and company practices
Assist in developing estimates, proposals and project budgets with the Operations Manager and Principal Designer
Showroom & Team
Work in our showroom and at clients' homes throughout the city, with trips to job sites as needed
Participate in managing the showroom alongside the team
Work with paid interns or high school students through NARI programs
Participate in charity and networking events, team-building activities, and quarterly meetings or trainings
